Micromanagement can be beneficial in certain situations. When a team works on a complex project with tight deadlines, it can help ensure tasks are completed on time, and everyone is on the same page. It can also be helpful when a new team needs guidance and direction, ensuring everyone is on the same page and tasks are completed correctly.

However, the success of micromanagement is based on a few conditions:

  • Short timelines.

  • The Manager is more competent in the domain than anyone on the team, and everyone knows it.

  • There is a clear goal to achieve without any room for discussion.

For instance, you need to defuse a bomb and are the only one who knows how it’s built.
