Questions for a New Leader
In 1998, U.S. Navy Captain David Marquet was preparing to command a nuclear submarine. He spent months getting ready for this task. However, his superiors made a last-minute change. They put him in charge of the Santa Fe, a different submarine. This submarine was the fleet's worst performer and a different type. This change made most of Marquet's technical knowledge useless. Marquet created a series of questions to steer these first talks. With minor alterations, these are some of the questions that are suitable for any new leader:
